Lewis and Clark sweeps women’s volleyball

Pioneers swept the Wildcats in a harsh battle. Linfield loss to Lewis and Clark going 19-25, 15-25, and 22-25. The ‘Cats went 0-3 sets.

Molly McTaggart, ’17, said, “We turned it on too late. We can’t continue to drop two sets and expect to come back and win in five.”

She added, “We served well in the third set and revived well. Our back row worked hard, but we need to work to earn the full 25 points and close some sets out.”

The first set had 11 kills, six errors, 35 total attempts and a hitting percentage of .143.

The Wildcats had five service aces for the night coming from Audrey Hyem, ’19, Kayla Magbaleta, ’19, each with two and Casie Gaza, ’17, coming in with one.

Darian Stedman, ’19, led with defense with 16 digs, closely followed by Magbaleta, with 10 digs. Also contributed by Jamie Talbo, ’18, Taylor Souza, ’20, Hyem and MacTaggart. The Wildcats had 47 digs for the night.

Stedman, on the match, “I think we definitely have some things to work on and tonight showed us that. We have some really good moments and just need to be able to string those points together.”

The second set had a hitting percentage of .033, made up of eight kills, seven errors and 30 total attempts.

The attack was led by Mackenzie Courtney, ’20, with seven kills, 15 total attempts and an individual hitting percentage of .267. McTaggart, Stedman and Eryka Keoho, ’19, all came out with five kills for the night. McTaggart and Stedman both had 19 total attempts and Keoho had 17 attempts.

The Wildcats ended the night with 27 kills, 22 errors, 99 total attempts and a hitting percentage of .051.

“I’m really proud of how we played through the middle of set three, we just needed to finish it out,” McTaggart said.

Stedman added, “I think we had some really good rallies and I think MacKenzie really stepped up tonight, which was awesome.”

The third set had eight kills, nine errors, 34 total attempts and a hitting percentage of -.029.

The ‘Cats had a total of five team blocks contributed by Courtney, with three, Mctaggart, with two, and, Hyem, Keoho and Taylor Petersen, ’19, with one each. Courtney, also come out with an individual block.

The Wildcats will be shaking of this loss heading into their next match against Pacific, 5pm, Saturday in Forest Grove.
