The Linfield Review took home five awards from two different organizations for excellent journalistic work in the 2025 calendar year.
Incoming Editor-in-Chief law, rights and justice and journalism and media studies major Kenny McMillen took home first place for best series and first place for comprehensive coverage for his coverage of the Balanced Budget Initiative. The award for best series was given by the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association (ONPA) and the award for comprehensive coverage was given by the Pacific Northwest Association of Journalism Educators (PNAJE).
Outgoing Editor-in-Chief and journalism and media studies major Amelia Solt was given second place by the PNAJE for personality profile for her profile about Shannon Dunn, who works for the IPO and in the HHPA.
Outgoing Managing Editor Julian Ortiz won third place for personality profile for his profile about biology major Caroline Smith. This award was also given by the PNAJE.
Photography editor Zack Hampson won third place for best sports photo from the ONPA for pictures taken during Linfield football’s November win over Lewis and Clark, This game marked the continuation of “The Streak”, which is now at 69 years.
“I am so proud of this year’s staff for all of their hard work and dedication to producing the best stories possible for our Linfield community,” Solt said. “Regardless [of] whether a staff member won an award or not, they should be incredibly proud of all the stories, photos, and multimedia pieces they created.”
The ONPA awards were against other schools in Oregon, while the PNAJE awards competed against schools from the Pacific Northwest.
Both McMillen and Hampson will be returning to The Linfield Review for the 2026-27 academic year. Meanwhile, Solt and Ortiz will be beginning their post-graduation stories.
