Fifth-place finishes highlight personal bests

For the ReviewThe Linfield swim team achieved some of its personal bests at the Northwest Invitational held at Lewis & Clark College’s Zhentbauer Pavilion on Nov. 22. Both the men’s and women’s teams took fifth in their respected divisions.
Sophomore Chrissy Baumgartner won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of two minutes, 15 seconds. Senior Dominic Rieniets, who came in second place in the 100 butterfly, finished with a time of 52.77. Senior Yusuke Kobayashi placed third with a time of 53.40.
In the 200 breast stroke, freshman Seth Ruwitch placed third with a time of 2:19.59. Freshman Miles Phillips came in third with a time of 2:07.34 in the 200 butterfly.
The invitational resulted with three University of Puget Sound swimmers receiving the title in their individual events. But it was Whitworth University that won the men’s team race.
In the women’s division, Whitworth swimmer Natalie Turner took first place in the 200, 500 and 1,650 freestyle events.
Whitworth also took the honors for the highest-scoring individual in the men’s division, with sophomore Rory Buck and junior Michael Woodward both taking three individual wins and sharing the honor of high points in the men’s relay.
Linfield will host a meet against the College of Idaho on Dec. 4. ’
