Wildcats continue to work for consistency

Joanna Peterson – Review staff writer. The Wildcat volleyball team was swept in three sets during a home game against George Fox University on Oct. 2.
The scores were 25-17, 28-26 and 25-17, dropping the ’Cats to a 3-3 record in the Northwest Conference play.
The Wildcats and Bruins played a close game throughout most of the first set until the Bruins completed a 6-2 run and finished with an eight-point lead.
The ’Cats were defeated in a devastating second set after letting their lead slip to one point. The teams were tied with 26 points each until Linfield made several attack errors, handing GFU another win.
“It was hard because we were at such a great energy level and doing well, but then the mentality of the team went down after we made a few physical errors,” sophomore outside hitter Samantha Lau said.
The Bruins finished the match with a strong set, forcing the ’Cats to trail behind as far as 11 points.
Despite the loss, Lau made a game-high total of 18 digs. Senior middle blocker Emily Vuylsteke scored nine kills, and sophomore setter Emily Carpenter added 18 assists.
Linfield travels to the University of Puget Sound on Oct. 9. UPS holds a second-place standing in the Northwest Conference.
“I think the game will go well,” Vuylsteke said. “They are a great team, but we’ve been working hard this week, and we’re trying to be more consistent and cut down on errors on our side.“
