Despite close loss, ’Cats head to NWC championship

Amber McKenna

The women’s golf team heads to the Northwest Conference Championships after a close loss to George Fox University at the Pacific Invitational on April 19.
The Wildcats finished with 341, just one stroke behind George Fox, and Pacific University took third with a score total of 349.
“It was unfortunate that George Fox slipped by us by a stroke, but the scores were all so close, and it is fun to have the opportunity to compete in such a close match,” sophomore Brynn Hurdus said.
Hurdus led the ‘Cats with a solid 78.
Junior Brittany Johnston trailed with an 86, followed by sophomore Katie Kilborn with an 88 and freshman Sophie Corr with an 89.
A bright spot for the team at the invitational was a 30-foot chip-in by freshman Lydia Smith that resulted in a birdie. Smith and freshman Meghan Crowder each finished with 90.
The young team has done well this season, coming in second and third in all of its competitions this year. Hurdus said she thinks that if the team can make up for its downfalls, it will play well at conference championships.
The NWC Championships will take place at the Apple Tree Golf Resort in Yakima, Wash. on April 25 and April 26.
