After winning four additional Northwest Conference games, advancing to 19-0 in the league, the Linfield softball team is rated No. 1 in the USA by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The Wildcats return to the top spot for the first time since the beginning of the 2008 season, one year after winning the national championship.
“We’re excited about the ranking, but won’t let it affect our daily approach,” freshman Jordan Mixsell said. “We will keep the same focus for the rest of the season.”
The ’Cats won two games against Pacific Lutheran University, 5-1 and 7-0, and two over the University of Puget Sound, 4-2 and 2-0.
The shutout against PLU was special as senior pitcher Brittany Miller threw a no-hitter.
Freshman shortstop Staci Doucette led the offense with eight runs batted in on the weekend, including three home runs, giving her nine on the year.
Sophomores third baseman Emily Keagbine and second baseman Alex Hartmann, freshman and catcher Emilee Lepp, had home-runs as well.
Linfield travels to Pacific University on April 18 and 19 for four games against NWC’s third place team, Pacific University.
