Although the season-launching game was postponed because of poor weather conditions, the Linfield softball team is more than prepared to engage in competition.
“Coach Vaughn has put together the best possible infield to give us the chance to be the most successful,” senior pitcher Kendra Strahm said.
The team upholds unity, remaining a fierce competitor despite the game outcomes and attaining recognition as champions, senior pitcher Brittany Miller said.
Strahm and Miller are this season’s senior returners who said they do not observe difficulties with assuming positions of guidance. In their three years, the duo has been exposed to exceptional demonstrations of how to play Linfield Softball, Strahm said.
“Kendra and I have very complimenting personalities,” Miller said. “I think it is almost easier to step into the role because there are only two of us and we both know we need to be leaders.”
Aside from the team’s focus on a fifth conference championship, Strahm said her main goal is to instill “Catball” fundamentals in the younger players.
“That is what was done for Brittany and [me] in the past and that is what we will do,” Strahm said. “I have complete confidence in our teammates this season, just like any other year.”
Along the lines of unoccupied positions within the infield and outfield, Miller said the team has observed some of the younger players treading vital roles, as well as the preparation of other team members to reach that point.
“The new girls are picking up plays and becoming more comfortable, it is just going to take a little experience for them to feel confident in their roles,” she said. “We have talent on the team; it is just a bit raw right now.”
