Men’s swimming stays afloat in competition

On Nov. 15, the Wildcats faced off against TheCollege of Idaho at the Linfield Aquatics Center.

Junior Yusuke Kobayashi won the 200 freestyle with a time of one minute, 47.75 seconds and the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.78. He also helped the swim team win the 200 medley relay.


In the Northwest Invitational on Nov. 21, Whitworth University took the lead. A total of eight teams were in the invitational. After the first day, the Linfield men placed fifth.


Whitworth took the 800 freestyle relay, the 200  freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay.

Linfield senior Josh Parfitt won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.49. University of Puget Sound junior Jackson Kowalski won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.04, and Whitworth freshman Rory Buck won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.81, along with helping the Pirates capture the 200 and 800 freestyle relays.

The final men’s team scores for the first day were Whitworth, 463; Puget Sound, 391; Whitman College, 342; Pacific Lutheran University, 322; Linfield, 201; The College of Idaho, 158; Pacific University,  149; and Lewis & Clark College, 10.


The second day of events was held Nov. 22 at Whitworth to determine thewinner of the Northwest Invitational.

Linfield did not gain any ground, placing fifth.

Linfield junior Dominic Rieniets won the 100 butterfly in 51.97, while Parfitt won the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:02.09. Kowalski of UPS won both backstroke events, taking the 200 on Nov. 28 and the 100 on Nov. 29.

Whitworth men’s swimming team won both relays Nov. 29, including the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relay.

PLU sophomore Jay Jones was the individual high-point winner for the men: He won the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:18.72. 

The final men’s team scores were Whitworth, 993; Puget Sound, 754; PLU, 655; Whitman, 621; Linfield, 440; The College of Idaho, 293; Pacific, 238; Lewis & Clark, 69.

The next meet will be held at Pacific Lutheran University at 1 p.m. Jan. 17.
