Indie-folk band kicks off tour at Linfield

Hunter Deiglmeier – Review staff writer. The Parson Red Heads, a rising independent folk group with Oregon roots, performed at Linfield on Nov. 12.
Based in Eugene, Ore., the band formed in 2005. Later that year, the group moved to Los Angeles, where it continued to produce music. After a few member changes, the present Parson Red Heads lineup includes Evan Way, Samuel Fowles, Erin Way, Brette Marie Way and David Swensen, according to theparsonredheads.com.
After the Linfield Activities Board contacted them and they agreed to perform at a Cat Cab, group members were inspired to hit the road.
“[Linfield] was kind of the whole reason we are doing this tour: [We] figured that, if we were going to come up and take you folks up on your offer, we may as well build a tour around it,” Evan Way, the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist, said.
“We [played] a few songs off of our most recent EP called ‘Owl and Timber,” he said. “[We] also [played] a [new] single called ‘Orangufang.’ There [were] definitely some new songs in the set list; we are recording a new record right now, so we’ve been trying out new tunes along the way.”
The band members said they were excited to play for Linfield students and that the Cat Cab was an excellent opener for the rest of their tour.
“We’ve done some college shows before, and they were always great experiences,” Evan said. “[It was] a blast to play for some new folks. Just being able to share these songs with people and share the performance with them and with my band [is rewarding]. I love creating music with my best friends, and it is great to be able to do that and have other people enjoy it, as well.”
