Club offers student talent venue

Septembre Russell – Copy editor. P.J. Wilson – For the Review. The Hawaiian Club and the Multicultural Program are sponsoring a talent show, an entirely new event. The club will donate a portion of the proceeds from the $3 admission to Homeward Bound Pets, a non-profit organization dedicated to caring for abused and homeless animals.
“We wanted to do something with the whole school,” junior Ihilani Haru, a talent show planner, said. “Most of the stuff we do doesn’t happen until the spring.”
Although the show is new this year, Haru said a lot of participants signed up in and planning began in early September, which provided ample time to go over the show and smooth out the rough spots. She said the difficulty came from ensuring that each act had sufficient performance time.
The evening will feature a house band titled “Na Hemo,” and after the show, the Hawaiian club will perform. The event isn’t devoted entirely to showcasing the group’s talents, however, as some might be tempted to assume. Instead, the show is intended to be a culmination of talents supplied by Linfield students.
Performers and their acts include a gymnastics routine by junior Sierra Broussard; a vocal performance by sophomore Jeremy Moll; a comedy bit by senior Michael Nelson; a cello duet played by junior Tracey Beaver and senior Amy Meyer; a vocal performance by freshman Jenaveve Linabary; a boy-band act by senior Andrew Pohl and sophomores Logan Frietas, Brett McKechnie and Moll; an instrumental presentation by freshman Moni Tang; a vocal performance by the French Club; a piano and vocal combination by senior Heidi Vanden Bos; and a vocal performance by freshman Joe Griffiths.
“I’m excited for the talent show,” Moll said. “It would be cool to win some prize money, but the best part is just getting out there and doing what I love and seeing other performers in their element.”
The show will take place at 8 p.m. Nov. 6 in Ice Auditorium.
