Linfield singers combine for choral performance

Lauren Ostrom – for the Review. The Wildcat Men’s Glee Club, Linfield Women’s Vocal Ensemble and the Linfield Concert Choir performed several songs apiece during the fall choral concert Oct. 25 in Ice Auditorium, all involving historical themes.
Assistant Professor of Music and Choral Director Anna Song said she was proud of the choral concert performers and said she has many goals set for them this year.
“By the time they go onstage and perform, I want them to enjoy themselves and the music,” Song said. “I want them to arrive at a place where they feel like a part of the community as a choir.”
Freshman Paulina Strowbridge, a member of the Women’s Vocal Ensemble, said her favorite part of the concert was hearing “Bonse Aba: A Traditional Zambian Song.”
“What I liked about the song was how we came onstage all together to perform,” Strowbridge said. “The drums were energetic, and the audience was more engaged, too.”
She said the choir has been preparing for the concert for a while.
“We were given songs at the beginning of the semester,” Strowbridge said. “We’ve been rehearsing ever since.”
Freshman Crystal Galarza said her favorite piece performed was “Ride on, King Jesus,” the last song.
“I liked that it wasn’t just one group; it was the women and men together singing,” she said. “I think the performance was well organized, and I really enjoyed listening to them.”
Sophomore Kyle Brouse said he enjoyed the Zambian song, as well.
“My favorite song was performed by the glee choir, and it was its song ‘Bonse Aba,’” Brouse said. “I think the choir adds something other than just sports to watch and enjoy at Linfield.”
The Wildcat Men’s Glee Club, Women’s Vocal Ensemble and the Linfield Concert Choir will next perform together at the Christmas Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in Ice Auditorium.
