Italian opera workshop

The opera workshop class’ spring performance “Potions & Pathos: Scenes from Italian Opera” will take place at 8 p.m. April 19 in Ice Auditorium.
Junior Natalie Lindsey said this year’s performance differs from that of her freshman year, when the class performed an operetta in collaboration with McMinnville Gallery Theatre. The operetta was set in 1860s Germany and included a cast of 35.
Instead, Lindsey said, the class will perform a variety of scenes from the Italian opera, with one scene sung in Italian.
“The operetta was more complex,” she said, “It’s a lot more manageable to just do scenes on top of a busy class schedule.”
Not only do participants make time for two rehearsals each week throughout the semester, they must also be available for additional rehearsals as the performance date nears.
After countless rehearsals, Lindsey said she is eager to take the stage.
Aside from looking forward to wearing new costumes, she said she is excited to finally see other people perform their scenes.
“There are still some of the scenes that I haven’t heard,” Lindsey said. “I know that the singers in them are very talented, so I’m excited to see what they’ve been working on.”
