Elin Johnson, Staff writer

Diplomacy in a globalized and increasingly digital world will be the subject of the lecture on at 5 p.m. April 4 in Riley 201. Linfield will be hosting alum Ryan Jones to speak on the subject.

Jones graduated in 2007 after majoring in mass communication and German. Jones will be discussing how electronic conversations have impacted interpersonal communications. His lecture will also cover how countries utilize the digital world in their diplomacy.

The lecture is sponsored by both the mass communication department and PLACE. This lecture is part of the PLACE series on the digital citizen.

“I am so excited to have Ryan returning to Linfield. For a young Linfield grad he has already accomplished so much,” Brad Thompson, mass communication professor, said. “I hope current students will be able to envision their own versions of the success Ryan has had.”

Following his graduation from Linfield, Jones was a Fulbright Scholar to Austria and a Presidential Management Fellow. Jones attended the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. Jones worked at the State Department for six years where he served as press and cultural affairs positions in Bangkok, Frankfurt, Paris and Washington. Jones now works on the comedy news show “The Opposition with Jordan Klepper.” The show airs on Comedy Central.

Jones will be visiting with classes prior to his lecture on April 4.
