Large turnout for bowling fundraiser expected

Linfield’s Athletic Training department anticipates an improved turnout from last year for its bowling fundraiser this weekend.

Two of the department’s seniors, Eli Peckham and Marcus McGovern, have been involved with hosting the annual event for the past three years.

“The first year [that the department did the fundraiser] there were lots of people,” said Peckham. He continued that last year’s turnout was not as good, perhaps due to a lack of publicity.

However, McGovern stated that many more people are aware of the event this year. “I’m expecting a good turnout. I’ve been promoting this for the past month,” he said.

This year, the proceeds will go toward funding a trip to the National Athletic Training Association Convention.

The convention offers athletic training students a chance to learn about the latest technologies and advances in sports medicine.

Peckham mentioned that it is also a prime opportunity for networking and career development.

McGovern said that the department hopes to raise enough money for all their seniors to attend the convention, which will be held at the end of June in New Orleans.

The fundraiser will be held from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. Friday at Walnut City Lanes. There will be a $12 fee at the door. The theme for the night will be cosmic bowling.

“We have [the bowling alley] reserved.” Peckham said.

And “…anyone and everyone is welcome,” McGovern said.
