Two Linfield professors were given promotions and five were awarded tenure by the Board of Trustees last weekend.

All the nominees presented to the Board by the Promotion and Tenure Subcommittee were accepted.

Marie Chantale Mofin Noussi, assistant professor of French and Francophone Studies, and Paul Smith, assistant professor of nursing were both promoted to the rank of associate professor.

Faculty members that were promoted to the rank of full professor, also known as tenure, were Patrick Cottrell, political science; Robert Gardner, sociology; Janet Peterson, health and human performance; John Syring, biology; and Chad Tillberg, biology.

“Evaluation of those whose primary responsibility is teaching is based on teaching effectiveness, professional achievement within the field(s), and service to Linfield, their profession, and the community,” according to the Linfield website.

When a professor is given tenure, they can only be terminated under extraordinary circumstances.
