Linfield baseball is ranked in a familiar place at the start of the 2018 season as the team is in the top half of the Northwest Conference.

The Wildcats are ranked third behind No. 1 George Fox University and No. 2 Pacific University. With their win against Willamette on Saturday and Sunday, the Wildcats have a conference record of 2-1.

In their first game of the series, the ’Cats lost 3-5. But the next day, Linfield was unstoppable.

In the first game, the Wildcats demolished the Bearcats 20-1. Later that afternoon, they won again 3-0.

“Overall, it was good weekend,” senior Daniel Zavala said. “It would have been nice to get the sweep, but wining the series is huge for us.”

“Defensively I thought we played great,” junior Cason Cunningham said. “[Jake] Dennis’ catch in centerfield should have made Sport Center’s top-10.”

This weekend, Linfield will look to improve its NWC record. The Wildcats play the George Fox Bruins noon on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

“We are going to prepare the same way we do for any other team: having a solid week of practice and getting after it,” Zavala said. “They always play us tough so we know we have to show up and not coast. As long as we play how we are capable of, we’ll be just fine.”
