After more than 250 students received antibiotics at Linfield’s clinic on Wednesday, Cody Oden, ’17, still remains at the intensive care unit at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland battling meningitis.

Oden’s sister, Kelli Nash, told KPTV that her brother is improving since he chose to seek medical attention quickly.

Nash added that her brother would want others who have a fever, headache or spots on their hands or feet to get checked out by medical professionals.

Oden was flown up to OHSU on Tuesday after he was diagnosed with a bacterial infection.

According to the News Register, seven students were diagnosed with Type B bacterial meningitis at the University of Oregon last year, with one of the students dying from the disease.

The incubation period of meningitis ranges between 3 to 4 days, according to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The student health and wellness center will hold an additional screening today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for those who were unable to be screened on Wednesday and may need preventative antibiotics.
