Taste of Culture provides cultural buffet for students, families

Presented by the International Club and the International Programs Office, various cuisines representing culture and traditions from different countries were prepared by students.

Taste of Culture was held at Jonasson Hall on Saturday night, at the tail end of parents weekend so Linfield parents could enjoy the food as well.

This event was free and open to everyone that wanted to experience a wide variety of foods.

Taste of Culture featured foods from apple strusel to chiles en nagada. Students could vote on their three favorite dishes once they were done with their meals and the winners would get a gift card.

Countries included were Nepal, Germany, Vietnam, Korea, China, Mexico, France, Malaysia, and the Soviet Black Union.

Many students made more than one dish for each country and it turned out to be a big hit.

There was a constant flow of students and their families coming through the door. Long lines formed as people were waiting to try the many different kinds of foods. Many of them were there right when the doors opened and many kept coming until closing time.

Adventurous individuals entered and filled their plates with foods such as dumplings, Vietnamese sandwiches, bulgogi soup, apple strusel, boiled beef, curry puffs, chiles en nagada, French cupcakes, rainbow agar-agar, and pilaf.

All of the groups presented with well cooked and prepared foods.

The atmosphere was very lively as festive music was playing in the background. Flags representing the countries were hung on all of the walls and were on their tables as well.

The event was a success, and while walking around students and their families muffled out words of praise to the cooks between bites. “Wow this is so good,” to “I’m going back for seconds,” was heard more than once.
