Spoken Word Society provides critique, workshop space for students

Haylee Harris, For the Review

Poetry is a form of self-expression which many college students run to as an outlet for stress, the Spoken Word Society provides just this outlet.

It is a place for those who enjoy writing and performing poetry, as well as those who want to start appreciating it. This club teaches students how to write poetry and improve upon their existing knowledge. It’s also a club meant to teach about, instruct in and appreciate poetry and the spoken word.

Preston Turner ‘19 explained that the club “offers insights and critiques to each others works and help improve all our understanding and writing skills in poetry, short stories, prose, etc. Often we create prompts for us all to write about for the week, and see what different directions we all take the prompt in.”

The Spoken Word Society and Poetry club meets every Thursday at 6:30 in TJ Day hall in room 222.
