The University of Puget Sound fought out Linfield, defeating the women’s soccer team 2-1.

The Loggers held majority possession in the first half. Both teams shared equal possession in the second half. Loggers had a goal in both half’s minute 14:10 and 48:24. Wildcats scored in the second half minute 78:54.

First goal of the game was scored by a cross from the right side of the field and shot into the right hand side of the net. Loggers #17 Jacquelyn Anderson shot, with an assist from #21 Emmy Owens. Wildcats goalie Sarah Bailey, ’19, had three saves for the night.

Bailey in the first half had a save where she grasped the ball and pulled away, milliseconds before white [UPS] nearly tramples over her.

The Wildcats scored the third shot in the second half by Jamie Mars, ’19. The ball bounced high after the initial shot and popped up right over the Logger’s goalkeeper, while she stumbles backwards falling into the net and on the ground. Mars was unassisted.

The second shot by the Logger’s was initially shot by #22 G. Williams-Krebs, but Wildcats goalkeeper Bailey deflected the ball back out, but Logger #12 Annie Prickett shot it back in.

“I was very frustrated [after game] because our team seemed to control possession in the game, we just weren’t able to get the result we wanted,” Taylor Cole, ’20, said.

Cole added, “I’m proud of our team for never giving up and fighting ’til the last second. I’m looking forward to this weekend’s road trip and hope to bring back a couple wins.”

Not minutes after the first goal by the Loggers they had another opportunity to shoot, but Cole played incredible defense and pushed her Forward to the corner. She ended up on the ground, but was still able to clear the ball up and through her Forward’s legs to her teammate Mars.

“We had our high points and low points in the game. The effort of the team was strong and it translated into our number of shots, but unfortunately not the score. We could either carry the defeat with us into the next week or utilize its teachable moments,” Baylie Cameron, ’20, said.

Cameron continued, “I strongly believe this team will employ the lessons of this game in our coming battles with Whitworth and Whitman. As a young team, we have become skilled in adapting to tempo and learning from mistakes simultaneously. From this point we will look forward with optimism, because we have trained for the right to do so.”

‘Cats’ Season records is 2-6-2 with a Northwest Conference record of 2-2-2.

The Wildcats are up to play the Whitman Missionaries, noon, Saturday in Walla Walla, WA.
