Get a ‘Good Life’ with the Sustainability Office

Office of Sustainability

Although the Sustainability Office has been focused on many programs and educational opportunities for helping the Linfield community achieve Zero Waste and a sustainable lifestyle, there is also a great big community outside of the Linfield Bubble.

That is why this October 10th-11th, we are hosting a conference at Linfield called The Good Life, which is now open for registration to you and the surrounding community.

What is The Good Life conference all about? The purpose of The Good Life is to connect Linfield with McMinnville and Yamhill County in an effort to empower our community to address the increasingly prevalent issues that are connected to every individual within the community. However, the scope of the conference goes far beyond the typical realm of sustainability to address many other factors that can play a role in creating a healthy community that enables every individual to live a happy, fulfilling life.

The primary goal of The Good Life conference is to provide an opportunity for the community (both Linfield and McMinnville) to gain awareness and
education about various issues that our community is currently facing—on an individual level, a social level, and an environmental level. The conference will help us all to address the intricacies of these topics, and develop the tools to find and implement solutions. The conference will also focus on local examples of resilience and thriving that demonstrate what, perhaps, The Good Life looks like.

You might be wondering, what is ‘the good life’ all about, and who gets to define it? We are inviting you to contribute to this definition of what ‘the good life’ entails and how to achieve it in our daily lives. This includes the opportunity to help come up with creative ways to implement solutions to the problems our communities face.

The conference includes keynote speakers John DeGraaf and Charles Eisenstein; forums on local issues in the community; numerous workshops; live
music; food; and ample opportunity for creating the foundation of the good life and learning how to live it. This conference is a fantastic opportunity for you to connect with other students, staff, and faculty at Linfield, as well as many people in the community surrounding Linfield.

For the students, staff, and faculty who have been at Linfield a while, this concept of the “Linfield Bubble” comes up again and again. Let’s pop the bubble and see what kind of wonderful world we can create when we join our community with the communities surrounding us.
