Linfield has brought in over 1,700 students from 29 states and 14 countries as of the fall of 2024. But what makes students attracted to the university?
One reason is that there are over 60 clubs and organizations to join, including community service organization, Circle K International and Hawaiian culture club, Hui o Lōkahi. Not to mention, the vibrant Greek life opportunities, and the ability to advocate and plan events in Associated Students of Linfield University (ASLU).
In addition to the variety of clubs and organizations offered, Linfield pays for the plane fare there and back for your first study abroad trip to any of over 25 places across South America, Europe, Asia and elsewhere in the United States.
“The campus is beautiful, they have really great study abroad opportunities,” said senior environmental science and philosophy dual major Sage Henke. “The liberal arts college experience is what I was after, and then there were just little nuances about Linfield that specifically drew me in.”
Students claim that the professors feel accessible, as there is one faculty member for every 10 students, and the average class size is 14 people. You can even do a collaborative research project one-on-one with a faculty mentor.
“I know a person who went here, and she said really good things about it,” said sophomore Leanne McPherson, a nursing major. “I toured the campus, and I really like how it’s small. I really like the campus in general.”
These small class sizes allow for students to gain strong connections with their professors, making it easier to ask questions and attend office hours.
“I mostly put it on my list because of the small class sizes,” said sophomore marketing major Adele Lanier. “It enables me to connect to faculty members.”
Other students also mentioned a generous amount of financial aid. Linfield prides itself on its ability to cater to first-generation students, who make up around 40% of its student population.
“It’s very beneficial when you’re able to work up close with professors,” said sophomore nursing major Metztli Galindo. “Plus, their financial aid package was very generous.”
Linfield offers over 50 undergraduate majors and three graduate programs across its College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, and School of Nursing.
The university motto perhaps best explains why Linfield is so popular: It is the best place to “explore the uncommon.”
