Printing at Linfield has been a bit lacking. As it stands, the only printer that students can use for free is located at the library, which is very far from both the academic and residential buildings. This makes printing a huge inconvenience for students, as it can be up to a ten minute walk to get from your dorm room to the library.
Because of this, Associated Students of Linfield University (ASLU) sent out a survey to students to gauge interest in potentially getting a printer installed in the Keck Science Building for student use.
According to ASLU Vice President Conner Dooley, out of 312 respondents to the survey, 95% said they would use a printer in Keck. As a result, work is underway on getting the installation done.
“There is currently no timeline for when a printer will be installed,” Dooley said. “But we do know they are working on identifying a possible location for the printer. In addition, it was mentioned that they want to get the ball rolling by purchasing the printer first anyways.”
Students believe the new printer will be helpful, both as an option that is closer to most of the dorms on campus and incase printers at the library aren’t working.
“I think it would be nice to have one on both sides of campus,” sophomore Bella Rigutto said. “Additionally, it would mean the chances of a printer actually working would be higher.”
The issue of the printer at the library not working is often at the forefront of student minds, and fixing that issue is part of ASLU’s goal with the printer.
“The goal for this printer is to fix some of the issues caused by having the printer in the library,” Dooley said.
“For instance, a printer that is conveniently located in the academic quad and maintained outside of the library’s responsibility will make completing assignments and being prepared for class more efficient for all students.”
