Kristen Regalado is the new head cheer coach at Linfield, generating excitement throughout the cheerleading program. Her journey into cheerleading began during her sophomore year of high school when she decided to try something new. This choice allowed her to discover her true passion for the sport, and she has been dedicated to cheerleading ever since.
With over a decade of experience coaching at the high school level, Regalado is now stepping into the world of college coaching, a transition she eagerly anticipates.
“It’s fun having a lot less limits on what you can do,” Regalado said.
In this new role, she appreciated the enthusiasm of her athletes.
“They’re eager to tackle new challenges without the fear that often comes with younger competitors,” Regalado said.
This newfound freedom allows her to bypass the basics and dive straight into more advanced skills, creating an environment that promotes growth, creativity and excitement.
A distinctive aspect of Regalado’s coaching journey is her collaboration with her mother-in-law, Gina Regalado, who is the head dance coach. This unique dynamic fosters a supportive and effective partnership, allowing them to share their passion for cheerleading and dance on both personal and professional levels.
“When you’re not afraid of judgment, you can accomplish so much more together,” Kristen said.
This collaboration not only strengthens their bond but also enriches both of the teams’ experiences.
Regalado is also deeply committed to expanding the cheerleading program and actively encourages aspiring cheerleaders to join.
“We’re just getting bigger every year,” Kristen said. Her vision includes ambitious plans for competition and growth. “There’s a place for everyone here, whether you’re a seasoned cheerleader or just starting out.”
This inclusive atmosphere fosters a sense of community and belonging, which is essential for building a strong and cohesive team.
Kristen’s advice is straightforward for future cheerleaders: “Come out and try it.”
She believes that the team’s growth will create more opportunities for competition and skill development. With her positive approach and dedication to creating a strong team culture, Kristen is ready to make a meaningful impact. Under her leadership, the cheer team looks forward to a promising future where both experienced cheerleaders and newcomers can thrive together.
