On campus there is a wide variety of events, clubs, and organizations that students can get involved in. Intramural sports is one way students can spend their free time with classmates and enjoy themselves.
Flag football kicked off the 2023 Intramural season with huge success pulling in 120 players, Diego Arredondo, former ASLU sports director, said. The first of many IM sports to come, flag football allowed students the chance to enjoy the competitive and strategic nature of real football, without the grueling injuries or complex offensive/defensive schemes.
Junior Wyatt Zagyva, participant in this year’s IM flag football season, said that he signed up for the IM to find another way to stay active alongside his friends.
“The officiating was fair and well organized by the [intramural sports] director,” he said.
Flag football is a month-long IM sport, and the winner will be decided on October 5th in a tournament style bracket. However, there are also both daily and weekly IM tournaments sprinkled in throughout the fall that students can look forward to.
For those who aren’t interested in flag football, not to worry there is a suite of other IM’s coming up. Sand Volleyball, Spike Ball, 2v2 Basketball and more, in just the fall alone!
As flag football wraps up, IM soccer is just around the corner. Another popular season long IM sport where students make teams of 7-11 people to compete for IM glory and a spot on the IM Champions Plaque located in the HHPA ( it’s the real deal).
Students can expect sign-ups for IM Soccer to be posted and emailed out in mid-to-late October. There, you can easily register with or without a team and jump into action when the season begins. New and returning students alike can indulge in the Linfield campus life experience by registering for these upcoming IM opportunities when they appear.
