Review selects 2018-19 editor-in-chief

The Linfield Review has selected a new editor-in-chief for the 2018-19 school year. Olivia Gomez, ’19, will take over as editor-in-chief. She is currently the news editor for the Review.

As editor-in-chief, Gomez plans to make “sure things are getting covered that aren’t and increase the Review’s readership.”

“I want to get to a place where we have more content than we need so we can have different things on different platforms,” she said.

Gomez values working for the Review because journalism, even in small communities like Linfield, is important.

“We live here and we work here and we learn here so it’s important that we know what’s going on,” Gomez said.

“It’s a specific form of learning when you’re reading quality journalism.”

Establishing a sense of family within the Review’s staff is another goal for Gomez.

“I want us all to feel comfortable spending more time than just at the meetings,” she said.

Gomez is an English literature and mass communication double major. She is in her second year as a writing assistant for the writing center.

Gomez is also a peer instructor for professor Reshmi Dutt-Ballerstadt’s INQS course, Multicultural America.

Gomez, along with Camila Arguello, runs a KSLC radio show, Lunch and Laughs.

Professor and Department Chair of Mass Communication, Lisa Weidman, Professor of Mass Communication and adviser to the Review, Brad Thompson, and the Review’s current editor-in-chief, Kaelia Neal, ’18, interviewed Gomez for the position. Gomez was the only applicant.

Gomez is in the process of hiring a staff for next year and can be reached at [email protected] for more information.
