Men’s tennis bags conference win

Men’s tennis took a loss this Saturday against Pacific University with a final score of 3-6 but managed to make a comeback on Sunday against Pacific Lutheran with their biggest win of the season at 8-1.

Saturday’s match against Pacific University achieved three wins from sophomore Luis Rojas and senior Ben McNair with a double’s score of 5-8. The other two wins came from singles matches played by Rojas winning both sets in his match 5-7 and 3-6. Junior Trent Prussing won his first set at 2-6, lost the second set at 6-1 and pulled ahead in a third set at 6⁵-7¹⁰.

“[We] fought hard and came out with the some great individual wins.” McNair said.

Sunday’s match was the men’s first Northwest Conference win this season. The biggest leads of the day came from doubles team junior JT Barcellos and junior Nathan Saragoza with a score of 8-1. The largest leads in singles matches came from McNair with set scores of 0-6 and 1-6. Junior Eric Rutherford pulled ahead with 2-6 and 1-6 and Saragoza won 1-6 and 0-6.

Prussing now holds a personal season record of 5-0 in his singles matches. He also won a single’s match this Sunday winning both sets in his match at 1-6 and 6⁶-7⁸.

“This weekend we competed hard in every spot. We came up short on Saturday and won on Sunday. It was a good way to go into spring break,” Saragoza said.

The Wildcats conference record is 1-3 and overall 4-9. Next, the team will compete 11a.m., April 8 at George Fox.
