It came as a surprise to Cloverfield fans when an ad during the Super Bowl announced that the third movie in the franchise would be available on Netflix immediatley after the game.

The first movie, “Cloverfield” was a quite average and frankly underwhelming compilation of ‘found-footage’ surrounding an attack on New York by some sort of giant alien creature.

The second movie was a masterpiece of cinema. “10 Cloverfield Lane,” a suspense thriller set in the same timeline, and one of the best, if not the best movie, of 2016, had no business being as good as it was. John Goodman and

Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s performances were nothing short of masterful and every scene kept me on the edge of my seat.

So when at 4:51 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday I received a text message from a friend that read “the absolute [expletive] madmen, Cloverfield 3 is out tonight!!!,” needless to say I was pretty excited.

Out of sheer coincidence, I had just days before re-watched “10 Cloverfield Lane” with a group of friends so we gathered together once again and settled in to watch the next installment.

Unfortunately, “The Cloverfield Paradox” was a bit of a letdown. The movie follows a group of scientists on an orbital platform that are tasked with finding an unlimited source of energy to save Earth from the brink of war over dwindling resources.

The problem with “The Cloverfield Paradox” is that there is a lot of foreshadowing and a sense of impending disaster but in the end the struggles are almost completely inconsequential to the greater storyline.
Frankly, the only parts worth watching are the first five minutes and last five minutes. One thing is sure though: they know how to end it on a cliffhanger.
