Choosing a costume and other Halloween fun

Braelyn Swan, Staff writer

It’s that spooky, scary, stressful time of year again. Choosing a Halloween costume is only half the battle when you’re living in McMinnville. It’s hard to find the best place to find the best costume for you. However, McMinnville does not disappoint there are plenty of places to find your Halloween needs without traveling too far.

The Gallery Theater offers costume rentals almost year round and has special dates for renting Halloween costumes. There are also costumes available at the local WalMart, and some accessories at Dollar Tree.

The most popular costumes of 2017 are predicted to be Pennywise from the film IT, Wonder Woman, and Baywatch. With costumes in mind, don’t forget that culture is not a costume. Costumes that appropriate the cultural values of any culture are often demeaning, offensive, and inaccurately portrayed.

Beyond costumes and Halloween, McMinnville offers many pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and other October fun. Heiser Farms and Farmer John’s Produce and Nursery offer pumpkin patches for picking your perfect pumpkin for carving, decorating, and all of your pumpkin needs.

If you’re looking for more than just pumpkins, Flower John’s offers corn mazes and hayrides also. There are also events throughout October throughout the Mcminnville community including the Day of the Dead event at 6 p.m. Oct. 28th at the McMinnville Community Center.
