The Linfield Wildcats Women’s Soccer team had a rough time during their away match and was defeated 2-0 by Puget Sound.

          It was ‘Cats first game in the season losing by a two goal gap. “Today was a hard loss, but I thought we played really well. It was just unfortunate that we had two laps and they capitalized on them. I think the ref did not allow us to play as hard as we wanted by giving us three yellow cards and one to them” Shelby DeRocher, ‘18, said after the game.

         Puget Sound scored first just five minutes before the end of the first half after a clear chip by Berg Gabbie past ‘Cats goalkeeper Sarah Bailey, ‘19.

Both teams were high focused and six substations were made in the 45 minutes. Two from Linfield and four from Puget sound, perhaps that was the difference for the home team.

         “Yeah, it was a bummer. The game was full of fight, but we just had a difficult time in the final third. I guess a take from the game would be to connect more frequently on their half and communicate more,” said Mary Cait Moriarty, ‘20.

The Wildcats came back focused after the break, but unsuccessfully the defense sleeps in and Puget Sound scored again making it two to zero.

Wildcats made three substitutions in the last half hoping for a come back, but all in vain as the home team continued to keep tight defense. And in the process of the press hard the best chance for the come in the 72th minute, but only ruled offside for the linesman.

The ‘Cats still have one remaining home game in hand and they look forward to utilizing the opportunity for better results.

       The current record for the ‘Cats after the game stands at 5-9-3 overall and 5-5-3 Northwest Conference.  Next game for the ‘Cats is Pacific University at home.
