May 4, 2016
It is believed that Owen Woods does not have a connection to the body that was found in Depoe Bay on Tuesday, according to brothers in the Delta Psi Delta fraternity, friends of Woods and his mother.
Woods’ mother, Carie Woods, said that he was last seen in Healdsburg, California, by a police officer on April 19.
An operator at the Healdsburg Police Department said that the department is aware of the case. The sergeant on duty was not available for comment to confirm the sighting of Woods.
Peggy Barrett, a Linfield graduate and friend of Woods, said that she had also been made aware that Woods was last seen in Healdsburg.
Ms. Woods said that McMinnville Police contacted her about the body found on Tuesday near Depoe Bay and that the officer did not think that the body had anything to do with her son.
Police are still waiting on confirmation of the man’s identity from the Oregon State Medical Examiner.
Kelly Bennett Smith, 26, from Athens, Georgia, fell into the bay on April 15 and is to believe to have drowned, according to KOIN 6 news. It is not yet clear if Smith’s body is the one found on Tuesday.
