More than 275 people receive medicine at antibiotic clinics

After hosting two clinics on the McMinnville campus, more than 275 people have received antibiotics, according to an email from the Dean of Students Office.
The drug, Ciprofloxacin, was given as a 500mg single dose to those who attended the clinic, according to Patty Haddeland, director of the student health and wellness center.
According to WebMD, the drug is used to stop the growth of bacteria.
Side effects include, “Nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, or trouble sleeping.”
In an email to the Linfield community, the Dean of Students office described ways to reduce the risk of infection including not sharing drinking glasses or cups, water bottles, utensils, toothbrushes, cosmetics, cigarettes or vape pens.
Symptoms of meningitis include nausea, headache, vomiting and a fever.
The email also states that in order to be at risk of meningitis, an individual must have had at least 4 hours of contact with the disease infected person within the last week.
