Students enjoy a variety of shows on Netflix
February 29, 2016
Long days should always end with Netflix. Students all over campus use this internet streaming service to relax and unwind.
The Linfield community seems to have a particular taste for online television.
Programs such as “Parks & Recreation,” “Sense 8” and “American Horror Story” are clearly popular, because they are infused with mystery and violence, which catches the attention of youth.
Although mystery and violence is appetizing for college students, it seems that Linfield students like a strong woman lead and some well-placed comedy.
Undergraduates regularly mention programs such as “Scrubs,” “Orange is the New Black,” “The Office (U.S. version),” “30 Rock,” and “How I Met Your Mother.”
“Being Mary Jane, [is my favorite show] because it has Gabrielle Union, and she portrays an independent, educated, and strong woman,” Amantha Hood said. Lexi Morse said that her favorite show was “Bones, because it’s funny.”
“New Girl” is a favorite comedy among the men and women here. Jess, the upbeat protagonist of the show, delivers comedic relief to fairly realistic situations.
Since an overwhelming number of students on the McMinnville campus enjoy shows within this vein of entertainment, it reveals a substantial amount about our community’s values.
