Softball sweeps Saturday double-header

This past weekend, the Wildcats played a double header on Saturday against Lewis and Clark. In both games, the Wildcats picked up the won with a score of 8-5. With these wins, the ‘Cats record goes up to 30-8.

As senior night weekend, the coaches honored Melanie Oord, Cheyenne Fletcher, Jessica Woodruff, Emily Allen, Jenica Neuffer, and Jacinda Swiger.

In the first game, Oord, hit two out of the three times she was at bat. She also was able to get her fifth home run of the season. Allen, Woodruff, Maknna Clizer, ’20, and Chelsea Horita, ’20 also added to runs scored.

Shelby Saylors, ’19, pitched the entire game and was able to strike out seven of the Lewis and Clark batters without giving up a single walk.

“It was a memorable and fun weekend for the seniors and was awesome to start the series off with two wins!” Woodruff said.

In the second game, Swiger, Allen, Oord, and Paige Smotherman, ’19 all hit twice while at-bat. Oord was able to hit another home run in the sixth inning after Lewis and Clark had closed the score to 6-5.

Eliza Rossman, ’21, started the game and pitched the first four innings. Saylors closed the game, allowing only one hit and no runs.

“It was a memorable and fun weekend for the seniors and was awesome to start the series off with two wins!” said Woodruff.

“Saturday was senior day so we came out with some extra fire. To defend our home turf for the last time this season. We didn’t play perfect, but we played good enough to win twice. And now we know what we need to improve on this week, so we can be at our peak for the conference tournament next weekend” Oord said.

The team remains tied at the top of the NWC standings with George Fox heading into the final days of regular season play.

The rest of the series had to be postponed for another day because of the rain. Next, the ‘Cats will compete at the NWC Tournament starting Friday. The location has yet to be announced.
