Swimmers get ready for season at alumni meet

The Linfield Men’s and Women’s swim teams invited alumni to come compete against them at their alumni meet on Saturday, Oct. 15. The team loves to see their old teammates, Stacie Cuadro, ’17 says, “The best part about the alumni meet was feeling like one huge family.”

This year, fifteen alumni came to join the team in the pre kick-off of to the season. This was a great turnout and allowed at least one alumni competitor in most races.

One could argue that the alumni had more fun than the current swimmers. The alumni did all they could to compete, no matter if that meant cutting the race a little short or splitting it up with another alumnus. It was obvious the alumni were reminiscing on the times that they had while at Linfield.

The swimmers are encouraged to talk to the alumni and ask them about their Linfield swimming experience. This gives them the chance to learn from those who have already been through what they are about to experience. The alumni may not be a part of this year’s team, but they are forever a member of the Linfield Swim Team.

The meet is there to keep in touch with the former members of the team and to get ready for the season. For some this meet was their first college meet. Molli Hartzell ‘20 was one of those people. “It gives us basically a ‘practice meet’ and allows us to kind of gauge where we are in our training before our first real meet,” Hartzell said.

The swimmers used this meet to gauge where they are in their training. For the freshmen, it was a chance to see how their bodies were holding up to the intense training.

The teams head to Lewis and Clark College on Oct. 28 for the Northwest Conference Sprint Pentathlon to open the season.
