The trees fell on the Linfield Wildcats as the University of Puget Sound volleyball team defeated them 16-25, 18-25, 25-19, 17-25, in a 3-1 match.

The Wildcats had a hitting percentage of .120 and .088 in first and second set. There were seven kills, four errors and 25 total attempts in the first set. The second set held eight kills, five errors and 34 total attempts.

The Wildcats attack was led by Molly McTaggart, ’17, with 11 kills and 26 total attempts. Darian Stedman, ’19, follows with, seven kills and 31 total attempts. Taylor Petersen, ’19, Courtney Mackenzie, ’20, and Audrey Hyem, ’19, continued with six kills each.

The third set was run by the Wildcats with 13 kills, only six errors and 34 total attempts, which led to a .206 hitting percentage.

McTaggart said about the third set turn around, “We were able to side out quickly and run some points.”

She added, “We need to play better sooner in our matches. We can’t wait until set three.”

The fourth set was taken back by the Loggers. The Wildcats ended the night with 11 kills, six errors and 29 total attempt falling to a .172 hitting percentage. The team had total of 39 kills, 122 total attempts, 38 assists, five service aces, 49 digs, and four team blocks.

When asked going into the next match if the team was going to change anything, McTaggart said, “We have three days of practice before our next match so we will work on serve receive so we can get a good first touch on the ball and get more hitters involved.”

Coach Shane Kimura said on the same topic, “Next match we will work on doing some of the little things a little better- I think we need to pass the ball at a higher level in our conference matches- so that will be something we will be working on during practice next week.”

Coach Kimura, also defines little things as “Communication- I think is a part of it- I think playing every ball hard so making sure to put good effort into things, you know little things are things we have control over so not having a good attitude at practice could be part of that too.”

The Wildcats record is 5-3 for the season and 0-2 for conference.
